Defining the brand strategy, developing brand guidelines and designing resources for a new venture

Be First

Our task for this project was to define the brand strategy, develop brand guidelines and design resources for Be First a new venture designed to knit together private and public interests to capitalise on the opportunities that the area offers. Its core focus is on accelerating regeneration and investment in Barking and Dagenham.


The brand and logo mark by me&you needed to work across a variety of mediums, such as business cards, exhibition stands, animations and a website. It was important that the logo captured the excitement and dynamism that the companies regeneration merits and was versatile enough to work on different applications.

A strong logo mark was imperative, as it needed to be capable of standing alone and representing independence from the council, we considered the scope of the project and the target audience during the first phase of the project and ensured that the identity would connect to residents within the borough, especially the youth who would benefit from the regeneration.

Brand roll-out

The branding needed to create impact across all applications; this was present in the colour palette we selected and the shapes of the logo marks, to complement the bold use of colour and shape we decided to incorporate strong imagery and renders into the visual identity.

The imagery and renders became a strong part of the brand and are used as the main focal point across all printed material and on the website, the geometric shapes of the logo were stripped down and used to frame the imagery, and also to creayr space for copy.
