Protected: Inspiring air ambulance charity supporters with a refreshed magazine design

me&you supported KSS Air Ambulance on the design of a special anniversary edition of their supporter magazine.

Challenge

Supporter communications, like magazines and newsletters, are invaluable tools for charities, helping to keep donors and supporters informed, engaged, and inspired. They provide a platform to share success stories, showcase the impact of fundraising and donations, and promote upcoming campaigns or events.

Improving the design quality of these communications can significantly enhance their effectiveness, making them more visually appealing and easier to navigate. A well-designed magazine or newsletter can strengthen your brand identity, capture attention, and motivate readers to take action, whether that’s donating, volunteering, or spreading the word.

Having provided Kent, Surrey, Sussex (KSS) Air Ambulance Charity with creative support for a number of years, we were delighted when they asked us to refresh their supporter magazine Above & Beyond.

2024 marks the charity’s 35th anniversary and so they wanted to create a special edition of the magazine to celebrate what they’d achieved over the last three and a half decades. The magazine also needed to inspire supporters to engage more with the charity in the future.

Solution

We worked closely with the KSS Air Ambulance team, who supplied us with the content, text and imagery. This content included glimpses behind the scenes with the KSS Air Ambulance crew and inspiring in-depth stories from people who had been helped by the charity.

Using a sample of the magazine’s content, we created a number of alternative layout options, all of which built upon the charity’s existing brand guidelines, but enhanced their existing design approach. We presented these options to the client, discussing the features of each design. Once a design was agreed upon, and the approved content supplied, we laid out the full magazine artwork and output it at high quality for print and a digital version for online use.

The magazine layout features a structure that clearly showcases content about the charity’s past, present and future.

QR codes were used throughout the publication to encourage and facilitate engagement, linking to web pages, videos and more.

Impact

At me&you, we pride ourselves on creating seamless, collaborative partnerships, and this project was no exception. From the start, we worked closely with the KSS Air Ambulance team to establish clear priorities, deadlines, and communication. This ensured that the project process flowed smoothly. Our creative team brought fresh, exciting ideas to the table, and the feedback was fantastic. The client praised our direction and the way we guided them through the concept phase, describing it as “one of the easiest supplier partnerships” they’d ever experienced. We’re thrilled with the outcome and excited about the prospect of working together again on future projects.

“me&you's creative ideas were fantastic, and their design expertise really elevated our project. They were a true partner throughout the process.”
